Its presence is progressively extending into numerous areas of everyday work: from content production to the synthesis of information, from decision support to the automation of certain operational activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This evolution is also beginning to change the way companies organize work and make decisions; A percentage of this magnitude indicates that the technology has already become a stable part of the everyday working life of many people. At the same time, <strong>only 17.4% of the sample considers AI truly important to their work<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This gap between usage and perceived relevance suggests that many applications are still being adopted in an <strong>exploratory<\/strong> way. These tools are used for limited activities, often for operational support or personal experimentation. Technology is therefore appearing in work practices, but only rarely, at least for now, does it take on the role of central infrastructure within business processes. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A further point of interest concerns the <strong>ways in which AI spreads within organizations<\/strong>. <strong>Spontaneous initiatives<\/strong> by colleagues represent one of the main factors behind the spread of usage practices (43.1% of the sample). Many applications arise from individual initiative, technological curiosity, or the attempt to improve one\u2019s personal productivity. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The phenomenon develops through mechanisms of <strong>imitation<\/strong> and<strong> peer learning<\/strong>, rather than through implementation programs planned by the company. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In fact, organizational structures dedicated to AI are still limited. <strong>Only 16.3% of companies say they have introduced specific roles for AI management<\/strong>, while <strong>dedicated organizational units<\/strong> are present in 8.5% of cases and<strong> formalized policies<\/strong> concern around 21% of companies. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Technology\u00a0is\u00a0therefore\u00a0widely\u00a0present\u00a0in\u00a0operational\u00a0practices,\u00a0but\u00a0remains\u00a0only\u00a0partially\u00a0integrated\u00a0into\u00a0governance\u00a0mechanisms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_AI_paradox_widespread_use_limited_organizational_integration\"><\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">The AI\u00a0paradox:\u00a0widespread\u00a0use, limited\u00a0organizational\u00a0integration<\/span><\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The research therefore highlights a dynamic that can be described as an <strong>organizational paradox<\/strong>. Artificial intelligence is widely present in everyday activities, while its integration into decision-making models and business processes is progressing more slowly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A significant share of current usage concerns tools that are easily accessible and available. <strong>Generative applications<\/strong>, for example, have reached very high levels of diffusion precisely thanks to their ease of use. This encourages rapid adoption, but does not automatically guarantee a meaningful organizational impact. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>More established technologies integrated into business systems<\/strong>, by contrast, show more<strong> limited diffusion but a better perceived usefulness<\/strong>. These applications are generally used for specific purposes and with more clearly defined operational goals. Their contribution therefore appears more tangible, even if less visible. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Italian market appears to be in a transitional phase: AI is spreading rapidly among individual workers, while its <strong>integration into business processes requires longer timeframes<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A similar dynamic is already visible in technology companies, where artificial intelligence is beginning to reshape work in software development. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">In organizations made up of hundreds of programmers, experiments with intelligent agents show how a significant share of operational activities can be progressively automated. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>Code production\u00a0is\u00a0increasingly\u00a0being\u00a0supported\u00a0by systems\u00a0capable\u00a0of\u00a0generating\u00a0it\u00a0automatically<\/strong>, opening up a\u00a0phase\u00a0of\u00a0transformation\u00a0in the skills\u00a0required\u00a0of developers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_should_AI_use_be_managed_within_companies\"><\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">How\u00a0should\u00a0AI use be\u00a0managed\u00a0within\u00a0companies?<\/span><\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Empirical evidence shows that the<strong> competitive impact of artificial intelligence grows significantly<\/strong> in companies that have launched more structured integration paths. Companies that invest explicitly in AI projects, introduce dedicated roles, or develop specialized organizational units report much higher levels of perceived value. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These results indicate that the <strong>technology expresses its potential<\/strong> above all <strong>when accompanied by governance mechanisms<\/strong>. Targeted investment, clear organizational responsibilities, and defined processes make it possible to transform AI from an experimental tool into a strategic lever.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The spread of intelligent systems is also changing the <strong>nature of work within organizations<\/strong>. As technologies become more autonomous, purely executive work will tend to decrease. Many operational activities will be delegated to intelligent systems, shifting human contribution increasingly toward functions of <strong>direction and supervision<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">People\u00a0will\u00a0therefore\u00a0find\u00a0themselves\u00a0carrying\u00a0out activities\u00a0such\u00a0as:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>defining\u00a0objectives<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>formulating\u00a0operational\u00a0instructions<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>building the\u00a0informational\u00a0context<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\"><strong>verifying\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0results\u00a0produced\u00a0by systems.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"New_roles_are_emerging_within_companies_AI_managers\"><\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">New\u00a0roles\u00a0are\u00a0emerging\u00a0within\u00a0companies: AI managers<\/span><\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0evolution\u00a0just\u00a0described\u00a0suggests\u00a0the progressive spread of a new\u00a0category\u00a0of\u00a0professional\u00a0roles\u00a0within\u00a0companies: <strong>AI managers<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These are roles intended to<strong> govern the integration between intelligent systems, business processes, and human activities<\/strong>. Their function concerns coordinating the use of technology, integrating it into operational processes, and defining rules and responsibilities for its use. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to Bonelli, this transformation could also affect the <strong>structure of skills<\/strong> within companies. Many workers who currently carry out operational activities may gradually find themselves coordinating intelligent systems rather than performing the work directly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This change will therefore require very deep <strong>reskilling<\/strong> processes. Professionals used to working directly with tools will need to develop capabilities in <strong>supervision<\/strong>, <strong>coordination<\/strong>, and the <strong>management of complex systems<\/strong>, ultimately handling multiple intelligent agents at the same time, defining objectives, and verifying results. In short, becoming true \u201cmanagers\u201d of generative tools.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Within\u00a0this\u00a0new family of\u00a0roles,\u00a0different\u00a0specializations\u00a0may\u00a0emerge. Some companies are\u00a0already\u00a0introducing\u00a0positions\u00a0such\u00a0as\u00a0<\/span><em><b>Chief\u00a0AI\u00a0Officer<\/b><\/em><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A<em>I strategy leads<\/em><\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, tasked with defining the overall guidelines for technological development. Other organizations are developing roles dedicated to operational governance, project coordination, or the management of the ethical and regulatory aspects related to the use of artificial intelligence. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 aria-level=\"2\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_AI_managers_will_be_needed\"><\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Why\u00a0AI managers\u00a0will\u00a0be\u00a0needed<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Artificial intelligence is introducing <strong>new ways of producing information, supporting decision-making, and organizing work<\/strong>. Systems capable of analyzing data, generating content, and suggesting operational actions are gradually changing the way organizations coordinate their activities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This evolution requires <strong>governance capabilities<\/strong>: AI managers will be tasked with creating the conditions for collaboration between people and intelligent systems to produce value.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As Bonelli points out, this transformation concerns not only <strong>companies\u2019 technological efficiency<\/strong>,\u00a0but\u00a0also\u00a0their\u00a0<strong>social\u00a0responsibility<\/strong>.
